    Musical Monday: Know Your Theremin

That instrument, gang, is called a theremin. If you've ever watched a 1950's science fiction movie, you've heard it. If you've ever listened to the Beach Boys song Good Vibrations, you've definitely heard it. Invented by Lev Teremin in 1919. it's the first electronic instrument and, in case you can't see above, it's played completely without being touched.

Any time you need an eerie sound effect, the theremin is there. The theremin is a great, versatile instrument capable of making just about any sound. Even, say, a human voice, as you've seen above.

You might want to check your Wikipedia reference, babe--it says that contrary to popular belief, the theremin was not used on "Good Vibrations".

Awesome video, though--where did you find out about it?

The Moog theremin website said it was a theremin, but Wikipedia says
it was an electro-theremin on the Good Vibrations page. Close enough
    for me.

Didn't find the video anywhere; I was looking at Weezer videos, then I
went to look at Matt Sharp's new band The Rentals. They have TWO
Moogs in the band, and that lead me to search on Bob Moog, and that
    lead to the theremin.
