Alysa is a newer addition to the Cadent + AdTheorent joining us almost 6 months ago as the Director of Product for our Aperture MX team. In this role, she manages the development and future proofs our SSP to support both Cadent + AdTheorent DSPs, as well as third-party DSPs we partner with. Her tireless work ensures seamless integrations, optimizes inventory monetization, and enhances bidding efficiencies across our programmatic ecosystem.

To learn more about Alysa and how she celebrates Women’s History Month, check out the Q&A below.

This year’s theme for Women’s History Month is “Moving forward together: Women educating & inspiring generations.” What does the theme mean to you personally?

I like to joke that Product Management is my third career within the AdTech industry since I’ve moved around in different functions quite a bit. Starting something new—whether it’s a project, team or company—can be scary and I’ve succeeded by learning from other women on my journey. With this year’s theme, I’m reminded of how working with women of different ages, backgrounds, and levels of expertise has been instrumental to my success. Since I’ve been fortunate to have female leaders as mentors throughout career, I try to offer the same support and mentorship to others while still being open to fresh ideas and considering different points of view. New experiences and insights from others are what keeps work (and life) interesting!

How do you invest in your personal growth in education and empower yourself in your role? Where did you get inspiration from?

I have such a curious nature and love to learn new things and, thankfully, there’s always something new in AdTech. To empower myself, I start with constructive feedback and more self-awareness. Recently, I received feedback on how I tailor my message based on context and audience, especially when speaking to senior leadership. Since I tend to jump right into selling my idea or getting too “in the weeds” too soon, I was given advice to start with three high-level bullets and then wait for a question before diving into details to ensure my message gets across.

How do you think we can support and uplift future generations of women in the workplace?

  1. Define and work together on shared goals.
  1. Be open to each other’s ideas, give each other time to think and space to talk.
  1. There are no dumb questions, and everyone learns at their own pace.
  1. “The way you did it before” may not fit the current circumstances, but there may be valuable insights you can still use.
  1. A new way of doing things may be harder at first, but working through it together can reveal hidden benefits.

This year’s theme for Women’s History Month is “Moving forward together: Women educating & inspiring generations.” What does the theme mean to you personally?

I have been fortunate to grow up surrounded by strong women—my mom, older sister, sister-in-law, grandmothers, and aunts—who emphasize the importance of uplifting and supporting one another, even in the hardest times. Their strength and resilience have shaped me, and I am endlessly grateful for their influence. They have never hesitated to speak their minds, even when they were the only woman in the room, and I strive to do the same. I once thought the phrase, “knowledge is power” was cliché, but as I grow, I realize just how true it is. Some of the most powerful women in history were also the most knowledgeable and their wisdom continues to inspire generations.

To me, the theme Moving Forward Together: Educating & Inspiring Generations means recognizing your worth and the value you bring. It means refusing to let anyone define your limits, showing empathy and compassion to yourself and others, persevering through failure, and breaking free from the constraints often placed on women. It’s about challenging norms, embracing innovation, and daring to rewrite the rules. These lessons are ingrained in me and helped shape the woman I am today.

How do you invest in your personal growth in education and empower yourself in your role? Where did you get inspiration from?

Asking questions has been the biggest factor in my growth within this role. As my first job out of college, I entered this industry with little knowledge of what it truly entailed. At times, feeling like I didn’t know enough was discouraging, but the incredible women on the strategy team have continuously supported and uplifted me throughout this journey—I can’t thank them enough.

It may sound simple, but I draw immense inspiration from women like Viola Davis, Beyoncé, Kerry Washington, Kamala Harris, and, most importantly, my mother. When they are told no, they respond with a yes. When faced with challenges, they don’t shy away—they confront them with grace and determination. That’s the mindset I aspire to carry—not just in my career, but in life.

How do you think we can support and uplift future generations of women in the workplace?

I believe in the power of encouragement and creating space for young women to be their authentic selves. Growing up, my family and teachers instilled that I could achieve anything if I put my mind to it. They taught me to embrace who I am, trust in my abilities, and have confidence in what I can accomplish—lessons that have been invaluable in my career. As women, we must continue to support one another through challenges and push each other to be the best versions of ourselves. This sense of encouragement and community is what young women will carry with them as they step into the workplace, shaping their confidence and success.

To me, the theme is about celebrating each woman’s unique background, both personally and professionally. Our diverse experiences—inside and outside the workplace—can inspire us to grow and improve. By empowering one another through our skills and knowledge, we create the greatest opportunities for collective success.

How do you invest in your personal growth in education and empower yourself in your role? Where did you get inspiration from?

The best way for me to continue learning and growing in this field is by spending time with the women who have been role models and mentors to me. Whenever I need support, I turn to the women I admire in the industry for lunch, coffee, or a quick FaceTime. Even a single conversation can be incredibly inspiring and insightful. My mother, one of the hardest workers I know, has been my greatest source of motivation. Her work ethic, dedication, and passion for learning are qualities I strive to embody.

How do you think we can support and uplift future generations of women in the workplace?

Always make time for others, support each other’s ideas, and offer guidance when needed. Be approachable and take time to ask and answer questions.

This year’s theme for Women’s History Month is “Moving forward together: Women educating & inspiring generations.” What does the theme mean to you personally?

To me, this theme symbolizes the collective power of women who paved the way for future generations. It highlights the importance of education, leadership, and community in creating change. Personally, it reminds me of the incredible women who have inspired and supported me throughout my life, and how their influence continues to motivate me to help and celebrate other women. My field is constantly evolving, which means there’s always something new to learn and keep up with every day. I feel incredibly fortunate to work alongside some of the brightest and most supportive individuals, who inspire me to continuously grow and be the best version of myself in this role. At Cadent + AdTheorent, the various backgrounds and experiences among my colleagues means there’s always an opportunity to learn something new. Her unwavering support and encouragement push me to reach my full potential, and I’m lucky to have the chance to learn from and collaborate with her.

How do you think we can support and uplift future generations of women in the workplace?

  1. Focus on mentorship, create inclusive environments, and offer opportunities for growth.
  1. Encouraging open communication, where women feel safe to express their ideas and ask for help is crucial.
  1. By ensuring equal access to resources and leadership positions and creating spaces that value diversity and collaboration, we can foster an environment where women can lead and thrive!

Austin Sellers is an Associate Director, Digital Solutions on our client services team and has been with Cadent + AdTheorent for more than three years. In this role, Austin does an amazing job providing the sales team with strategic support to secure new business and grow high-value accounts, as well as develops customized solutions that drive impact for our clients.

To learn more about Austin and how he celebrates Black History Month, check out the Q&A below.

What does this year’s theme, ‘Empowered Through Knowledge,’ mean to you personally?

“Empowered Through Knowledge” is such a profound theme. To me, it’s about fostering the intentional sharing of resources, opportunities, and hard-won lessons (both the trials and the triumphs) to create a foundation of understanding and growth. For Black Americans, our history has often been subject to erasure, leaving gaps in our collective narrative. This theme serves as a call to reclaim those stories, to ensure they are preserved, celebrated, and learned from.

Knowledge is transformative and powerful. By embracing our past and honoring the wisdom it holds, we illuminate the limitless potential of our future. “Empowered Through Knowledge” is not just a reflection of where we’ve been, it’s a declaration of what we can achieve as we continue to build a future rooted in empowerment, equity, and excellence.

How do you celebrate your heritage and contributions to your workplace during Black History Month and beyond?

I celebrate my heritage by actively patronizing Black- and BIPOC-owned businesses, volunteering in my local community with organizations that I love, and studying the works of Black thought leaders both past and present.

However, I believe the most impactful way I celebrate is by prioritizing my mental health and rest. Taking time off and using my FTO to focus on myself and my community. As small as it may seem, rest is an act of revolution that a lot of my ancestors did not have the luxury to take. I believe it is my duty and honor to step into the opportunities they fought for.

What advice would you give to the next generation of Black leaders entering the workforce?

Here are the six pieces of advice I would give to the next generation of Black leaders:

  1. Dream up the impossible. The future is what we design together.
  1. Create a vision built with compassion and playfulness.
  1. Network across—don’t just network up. Your peers will grow alongside you.
  1. Your career is yours. Always be in the driver’s seat of your professional journey and advocate for the development you deserve.
  1. Be a safe space. Community is everything and something as simple as taking care of each other with grace and understanding can unlock new opportunities.
  1. Know who you are and stay true to yourself.

Nick Tabert is an Associate Software Engineer at Cadent specializing in report automation and data analysis through Amazon Web Services (AWS). Nick first joined the Cadent team as an intern, and was subsequently hired for a full-time position. His work primarily involves using SQL and Python to query, manipulate, store, and analyze data, along with setting up cloud infrastructure for applications that deliver valuable insights to clients. Outside of work, Nick enjoys playing video games, working out, and reading.

Learn about his story in the Q&A below.

Did you always know you wanted to work in a technical role?

I always gravitated toward math and science in school because I enjoy problem-solving. I was in business school at college but switched to computer information systems for a more technological focus. This naturally led me to pursue a career in software engineering and coding which incorporates building and creative problem-solving.

What made you choose to join #TeamCadent?

I enjoyed my internship at Cadent very much so when I was provided with the opportunity to return, it was a no-brainer. Upon return, I’d be in a similar role with elevated responsibility, so it was an easy choice to join a company and take on a position that I already knew I liked.

Are there any resources you found valuable in growing your career?

My coworkers have been invaluable in helping me understand the business and strengthening my abstract problem-solving, collaborative, and critical thinking skills. Cadent provides online courses from LinkedIn and AWS, as well as sandbox environments for experimentation that have greatly improved and expanded my STEM skills. Cadent is an agile and innovative company that takes advantage of new, emerging technologies, which provides a fantastic opportunity to learn what direction the industry is trending toward.

What advice do you have for those interested in pursuing a career in STEM?

Focus on understanding what you are doing rather than memorizing. STEM has this exaggerated view of difficulty, which is true at times, but the real struggle is being able to persist through a topic until it clicks and becomes intuitive. Once it clicks, it can be quite enjoyable. A natural skill in STEM is not as important as having the genuine curiosity and willingness to learn and understand all the different areas of STEM.

Diwali, known as the “festival of lights,” represents the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. The five-day festival is celebrated by Hindus and other religions and is considered the most important holiday of the year in India. This year, Cadent and AdTheorent celebrated Diwali together as one team to go beyond personal traditions and bring a sense of unity and cultural appreciation to the workplace. Team members Gaurav Bhatnagar and Tanya Shah share their deep-rooted customs, reflecting on family, gratitude, and new beginnings. By embracing Diwali together, our employees strengthen their sense of community, fostering cultural inclusivity and mutual respect.

Gaurav Bhatnagar is a Sr. Director of Business Development at AdTheorent. His responsibilities include driving brand and agency sales momentum across the West Coast.

What does Diwali mean to you?

This is the first day of the new year, when friends and family exchange gifts and wishes for the season. It also happens to be the most awaited festival in the Hindu calendar. Diwali symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.” On this auspicious occasion, I wish everyone a Happy Diwali.

What’s your favorite part about celebrating Diwali at home?

In my household, preparations start a week before and one of my favorite traditions is to go ‘Diwali shopping.’ Another favorite is compiling images of Hindu deities on the wall of our home altar. I get equally excited about delectable home cooked Diwali treats, both savory and sweet ones, like ladoos and halwa. Keeping up with my family tradition, it is customary to worship Goddess Lakshmi (Goddess of wealth), which includes placing some gold jewelry and cash on our altar. We conclude the day’s celebration by enjoying a delicious vegetarian dinner, and lighting lots of sparklers and clay lamps.

How important is it to celebrate Diwali in the workplace?

Cultural celebrations play a crucial role in fostering social cohesion and cultural understanding by preserving cultural heritage and promoting a sense of community among diverse populations. These events facilitate intercultural dialogue and interaction, helping break down stereotypes and prejudices, and foster a shared sense of identity and belonging. The inclusive nature of festivals such as Diwali help bridge social divides and strengthens the social fabric of multicultural workplace communities.

Tanya Shah is a VP, Client Services and has been with AdTheorent for 12.5 years. She leads the AdTheorent Client Services Team and serves as the main liaison between our AdTheorent’s clients and the internal teams that oversee the post-sale campaign management process.

What does Diwali mean to you?

To me, Diwali is about honoring family, connection, and tradition. It’s a time for our families and loved ones to get together and have a moment of gratitude. It is also an opportunity for personal reflection and setting new intentions for the year. Growing up in New York, I celebrated Diwali with my parents and sisters, and now, I love that I can instill and pass down those values and traditions to my son and husband. At the same time, it’s special to create new traditions and memories with them.

What’s your favorite part about celebrating Diwali at home?

My favorite part about celebrating Diwali is the beautiful blend of our family gatherings and feasting on delicious food! A traditional Diwali in my home wouldn’t be complete without our amazing feasts! We light diyas around the house to symbolize the triumph of light over darkness, inviting positive and healing energy into our lives. It also wouldn’t be a true celebration without lighting sparklers and dancing to Bollywood music!

How important is it to celebrate Diwali in the workplace?

Diwali embodies the spirit of unity and inclusivity within communities, and I love how it has gained mainstream recognition in recent years! Celebrating Diwali in the workplace is essential for fostering cultural awareness and promoting respect and understanding across diverse cultures. I love that Cadent and AdTheorent honor Diwali, as it reflects a commitment to embracing our varied cultural identities, which is what makes any organization truly unique.

To celebrate National Intern Day on July 25, we’re spotlighting our Summer 2024 Interns to give you an insider’s look at what it’s like to intern at Cadent. From the moment they join the team, our interns are paired with dedicated mentors, ensuring they have the guidance and support they need to thrive. Through a series of questions, we’ve captured their experiences and the unique perspectives they bring to our organization. Let’s get to know some of our talented and driven Summer 2024 interns.

Describe the projects you have worked on so far during your internship.

“During my internship, I worked on several projects, including a Python web scraping tool to gather data from various websites, which improved my skills in handling different data formats. I also developed a project to aggregate and analyze Olympic data, focusing on broadcasting networks and event schedules, which was particularly interesting due to the complexity and real-time nature of the information. Additionally, I created reports for clients providing insights into their advertising performance metrics.”
– Dhruv Khandave, Inventory Management Intern

“The main project I am working on is setting up Unity Catalog on Databricks, which is a data cataloging tool that allows Cadent’s data sources to be visible on and accessible through the Databricks platform. I had never worked with Databricks before this internship project, so it was a really valuable learning opportunity to explore a new tool and leave an impact on the business. Rather than accessing data through numerous siloed sources from various acquisitions, team members will now be able to access necessary data through one unified data catalog. Working on this project has been a wonderful experience!”
– Sneha Vinod, Data Engineer Intern

“Some of my favorite projects include writing a case study blog post for the website, doing research on our data marketplace partners, helping to write the Monday Morning Read (an internal industry newsletter), and most recently developing a market strategy for a new vertical solution! My favorite project so far has been redesigning Showpad, the Sales enablement platform used at Cadent. Throughout this process, I’ve been able to apply and develop so many different skills, from creative problem-solving to branding and design. Through this hands-on work, I have gained a much deeper understanding, not only of Cadent as a company but the ad tech industry as a whole. And it is so rewarding to know that, at the end of the day, I am working on something that will actually be used!”
– Anabel Viera, Marketing Intern

Our main project for the summer has been a great opportunity to showcase everything we have learned. We were given a request for proposal (RFP) from a client and tasked with creating a sales presentation pitching our strategy, which we developed after talking to several other teams. We learned about the different lines of business including broadcast, CTV, OTT, and Client Solutions. This continues to be an awesome hands-on experience demonstrating how the sales funnel is put into action. It is also a great way to build my professional skillset by learning how to present a strategy clearly and concisely.
– Madeline Collyer, Client Solutions Intern

What’s one thing you wish you knew before joining the team?

“One thing I wish I knew is how nice and helpful everyone is at the company. Going into it, I was nervous about commuting and working in a larger office space, but everyone is very resourceful and cares about our success as interns.”
-Dean Ciccarelli, Sales Intern

What advice would you give to an incoming intern at Cadent?

“To those considering interning, or to any incoming interns, you will learn so much at Cadent! The internship program has been so rewarding from the weekly Lunch & Learn sessions with company executives, networking happy hours, to being part of such an inclusive environment. I have met so many people who I know will continue to support me throughout my career. Additionally, I feel like a true member of my team at Cadent and feel like my work has made a real impact.”
-Caroline Marx, Marketing Intern

“I would tell incoming interns to make sure they are carrying a pen everywhere they go and to make sure they are constantly taking notes. It’s also okay to ask questions–it’s encouraged and not to be nervous about starting a job that you know nothing about because in time you will learn and become comfortable in the field.”
-Julia Sciorra, Sales Intern

“The advice I would give is to come in hungry but humble. There are so many great minds at the company that want to see you do well, so coming in hungry to learn, but humble enough to ask questions and be comfortable failing is the best recipe for success. Also, set up meetings with individuals you want to speak with, especially the ones that lead the ‘Lunch and Learns.’ They put a lot of time into their presentations and appreciate people who ask questions and follow up with them.”
-Jordan Hayes, Data Science Intern

One piece of advice I would give to prospective and incoming interns at Cadent is not to be afraid of asking questions. In the beginning, it may feel overwhelming, trying to understand what the company does as a whole and where your department fits into that puzzle. Everyone is so insightful and eager to help the interns learn so don’t be hesitant to ask questions whenever you’re unsure because it’s likely that someone else is wondering the same thing!
Brennan Clarke, Sales Intern

Check out the Q&A below to learn more about members of our women’s ERG, Women at Cadent. Each of these women bring important and diverse views, experiences, and expertise to the table, enriching our company culture towards equality and empowerment.

Heena Otia is a Senior Data Scientist on the SSP side for Aperture MX and has been at Cadent for about a year. Her job entails data modeling and forecasting using machine learning models to maximize revenue and optimize ad exchange services for ad traffic efficiency. She also focuses a lot on data analytics, extracting insights from real-time data to split the signal from the noise and translate value to business stakeholders.

How have you built confidence or resiliency throughout your career?

My mom is my biggest inspiration- a fearless woman herself, she always instilled a sense of confidence in me and made me dream to fly higher. I love this book called “Audacity to Be Queen” by Gina DeVee. I have learned to be a resilient person by looking at setbacks as another opportunity to jump higher. It’s how we react to adversity that determines our life story.

What women inspire you the most and why?

My biggest inspiration is Malala Yousafzai, she always advocates for women’s education rights. I find her journey so motivational, from being under fire to never stopping herself.
Nowadays, I seek inspiration from all the amazing moms out there who guide me on work/life balance, parenting (I have a 2-year-old, so please pass on all the toddler parenting advice!) and carving out a position for yourself in the industry. It can feel daunting at times, but the thought that keeps me going is, “I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to reach my destination.”

What advice would you give to women navigating their careers within the advertising/ adtech industry?

We as women can uplift each other a lot by sharing our stories and networking. So far, networking and reaching out to people has been my mantra to seek interesting opportunities in my career. I never shy away from setting up quick Zoom chats with people from the industry or coworkers as well, now that most of the people are remote. I remember when I started in AdTech back in 2016, I didn’t know all the adtech lingo, but attending conferences, reading blogs, and networking helped me a lot.

Katie Adamcik is a Senior Scrum Master and has been at Cadent for about 1 year. Shes integrated with the Data Engineering teams to help run their day-to-day operations including tracking metrics and project progress, implementing process improvements, removing blockers, and ensuring they’re prepared for the upcoming planning cycle. I also lead our internal Agile metrics automation effort and work closely with the Audience and Identity teams to help instill best practices and provide coaching as needed.

How have you built confidence or resiliency throughout your career?

The most essential skill I’ve gained is how to effectively and regularly ask for feedback through check-ins with management and peers. While positive feedback is always nice – and a good confidence boost − critical feedback is where I find the most value. Constructive feedback provides concrete action steps to take which can lead to better work outcomes that maximize both your personal development and team value. Getting constructive criticism in a formal way can help you handle unexpected negative feedback and react rationally instead of emotionally.

What women inspire you the most and why?

Professionally, I’ve been inspired this past year by our own SVP Product, Management Marcy Pentoney! Not only is she an exceptionally strong and knowledgeable leader in our product organization who helps to drive the company and culture in a positive direction, but also manages to balance the demands of her senior role while still taking time to be very involved with her family. On the personal side, Dr. Jane Goodall has held my fascination since I was young (I even dressed up as her for a presentation in 8th grade!). She inspires me with her commitment to wild places and animals, and her radical change of how fieldwork had been done for decades.

What advice would you give to women navigating their careers within the advertising/ adtech industry?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions! I knew nothing about the adtech industry before working at Cadent, and while there is plenty of material to read online, nothing gets you up to speed like the color and commentary that comes from a discussion with your peers or leaders. This is also true no matter how long you’ve been in the industry as consumer behaviors, new technology, and regulations are changing how we work at an ever-increasing pace.

Ayaka Hayashi is the Director of Product Marketing and has been at Cadent for almost 6 months. She is responsible for developing GTM strategies of products and solutions within the Activation pillar, working closely with cross-functional teams across the organization.

How have you built confidence or resiliency throughout your career?

I’ve grown more confident and resilient by embracing the feeling of discomfort in challenging environments, including working in Tokyo and New York. Adapting to new companies, teams, and cultures has taught me that discomfort can signal growth and learning and embracing this discomfort has been key to discovering new things about myself, organizations, and diverse cultures, turning challenges into opportunities for personal and professional development.

What women inspire you the most and why?

The women who have truly inspired me are those who embody their support for women through actions, not just words (they don’t just talk the talk, they walk the walk!). They have made time for me, offering guidance, mentorship, and a safe space to be authentic and feel valued. In leading by example with humility, positivity, and sometimes stepping back by offering me the space to be heard or speak up—these are the women who encouraged me to be confident and take pride in who I am.

What advice would you give to women navigating their careers within the advertising/ adtech industry?

1. Always remember, be your authentic self. Don’t worry too much about trying too hard to be too serious or too cookie-cutter perfect. Be silly sometimes!
2. Find the people who give you the space to fail and give you the guidance to learn from your mistakes.
3. Surround yourself with people and teams that help you grow. Be a cheerleader for people and find people who will do that for you.
4. Remember all the big and little things you’ve experienced from others—mirror the things you liked and be mindful of the things you didn’t.

Hispanic Heritage Month is from September 15th to October 15th and serves as a month to celebrate the history and diversity of Hispanic cultures. It invites us to remember all the contributions Hispanic, Latina/o/e/x, and Afro-Latina/o/e/x people made in the past and will continue to make in the future. This year’s theme, “Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation,” encourages us to ensure that all voices are represented and welcomed to help build stronger communities and a stronger nation.

This month at Cadent, we spoke with some of our Hispanic, Latinx, and Afro-Latinx colleagues to learn more about who they are, their experiences in and out of the workplace, and what Hispanic Heritage Month means to them.

Tell us about your role at Cadent.

I’m currently an Associate Media Buyer for the Broadcast Department. My role is to construct TV media buys and send schedules to stations.

What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you?

It’s a time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions, diverse cultures, and extensive histories of the Latino and Hispanic American communities.

Where can we find you when you’re not at work?

I’m either at the movie theater watching the latest film that came out or spending time at home with my husband and dog!

Are there any mentors or experiences that have shaped you – either professionally or personally?

Dr. A was the chair president of the Mass Communications department in my college. He always pushed me to be the best version of myself.

What do you feel helps to foster a culture of inclusion? How have you seen those behaviors and practices successfully put into action?

I feel that food is the perfect example because we use food to celebrate and for comfort. Different foods evoke memories and emotions. Food can bring people together, in a community and also in the workplace.

Do you have any favorite movies, books, music, or other cultural inspirations from Hispanic creators?

One Disney movie that I relate to is Coco. It speaks to my Mexican heritage and the traditions that we follow.

What advice would you give to a younger colleague or a younger version of yourself?

There’s a solution to every problem, try your best not to stress, and enjoy the moment!
